Working Principles
The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser works by generating ultra-short, high-energy pulses of light at specific wavelengths—primarily 1064nm and 532nm. For tattoo removal, these pulses are absorbed by the ink particles in the skin. The rapid absorption causes the ink to heat up and expand almost instantly, creating shockwaves that shatter the pigment into tiny fragments. The body’s immune system then gradually clears these fragments away over time.
For pigmented spot removal, the same principle applies, but the target is melanin rather than tattoo ink. The intense laser energy is selectively absorbed by the melanin in the spots, causing the pigment to fragment through a photoacoustic effect. The microscopic pigment debris is later removed by natural cellular processes, resulting in a clearer and more even skin tone without damaging surrounding tissue.
Handle Functions
1064nm Laser Head: It's designed for deep-reaching treatments, making it ideal for removing dark pigments and tattoos. This longer wavelength penetrates deep into the skin to target black, blue, and dark-colored tattoo inks, as well as deeply rooted pigmented lesions such as Nevus of Ota and other dermal melasma. Its lower absorption by epidermal melanin also makes it the safest choice for patients with darker skin tones, significantly minimizing the risk of burning or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
532nm Laser Head: It's tailored for superficial treatments involving red, brown, or orange pigments. This green-light wavelength targets the skin’s uppermost layers, effectively removing red and orange tattoo inks, treating superficial pigmentation such as freckles, age spots, and café-au-lait marks, and improving vascular lesions including facial telangiectasia and cherry angiomas. It is most suitable for lighter skin types, and requires careful adjustment on darker skin to avoid adverse effects.
